Sadly but ZML was closed. Now I use http://movies34.com/ for movie download. It’s even more convinient than ZML.
Check it you were using ZML.

"oh come on, it’s utterly useless.
WINDOWS KEY + L locks your computer."

Yes thats one way to lock your computer, but there are times which you are not in the reach of your keyboard and you just want to lock with just a SINGLE CLICK of an icon on your Dock or taskbar (Windows 7). And c'mon you have to either ust two fingers on one hand to press WINDOWS KEY+L or Two hands just to lock. Think of other options... which is more convenient??

Having same problem as Lewis and Luke- I untick the "hide extensions" box, close out, and when I reopen, I find it has automatically reticked. Vista Home Premium OS. Is this a recent problem with Vista?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have heard this is a virus, but is unlikely, as I have not had this computer hooked up to the internet in any shape or form for over a year.

will this method work with Windows Vista also? I am using Windows Media Player to rip CDs to my computer library, but many of my CDs are burned from LPs, and all track data had to entered manually. Of course there is no cover art in the library for these albums.

Kevin - thanks so much for this information. I use XP at work, and for some reason (I don't remember how I did it) I managed to dump the "Show Desktop.scf" file onto my Desktop.

I'm glad your tutorial included that awesome "2nd step" of instructing "WHERE TO PUT" the "Show Desktop" file once it's created.

It was that step that helped me since the file already existed-- it was just stuck on my desktop.

Cheers,
Adam

I really enjoyed your site! I think you have some great content here. I personally have been looking into getting a new blu-ray player for my home. I found it very difficult to find the best deal for my dollar. Althought, I have found many sites dedicated to getting me the best deal, I really like the below site. You see, this site has up-to-date customer reviews on these blu-ray players, check out <a href="http://blu-ray.net23.net/index.html" rel="nofollow">http://blu-ray.net23.net</a>

This doesn't always work as some programs like PowerDVD will close your original program that you wanted to open the media with and then change to it e.g. PowerDVD.

I have downloaded Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 from http://sn.im/resetwindowspassword it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password. I Wrote it to an old 128mb USB flash drive do this. GUI interface with mouse clicking instead of command prompt

I need an edit button! Anyway, the above is wrong. In the folder options, the first screen has Show common tasks in folders. That accomplishes what I wanted. Changing from one computer to another and making everything match what you are used to is a chore!

@ geet,
Try this.
1. Open a command prompt, type ATTRIB -R -S -H filename to turn off the hidden attributes (replace the -'s with +'s to turn them back on).

2. In Windows, right-click on the file icon, and select Properties. Windows will allow you to turn on or off all attributes, except for the "System" tag (known as "S" to ATTRIB).

I thought you just had to backup wpa.dbl, not wpa.bak. And I thought that after the install, you can do it with Windows booted normally, not safe mode, then reboot the computer and the activation would stop the nagging.

But again, this only works ON THE EXACT SAME MACHINE, otherwise you will be told that the 30-days to activate is up even if it really isn't.

It's a good way to quickly reactivate Windows after a reinstall without an annoying phone-call to the Microsoft activation hotline.

@ Rajib Bahar, I was talking about Win XP in the post. If your asking about Vista it looks like it would be close to the same except Vista already has the "Windows update" and "AU key" you would just need to add the "NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers"

@ Craig, Perhaps you you misread the intent of the article, all were doing is unhiding protected system files and file extensions, were not trying to change the files themselves. And by the way Malware will try to prevent you from seeing system files and extensions in order to hide themselves.

@ Pat, You may have a virus or a spyware infection. I would definitely run some scanners on your system as soon as possible. That is a sign of a problem. Also make sure your logged on as an administrator.

Kevin:

The temporary internet folder "hide files" check box will not let me uncheck "hide files" because it is grayed out. I am attempting to create a macro in excel that deletes the files in the folder but can't do this b/c the files are hidden... Anyway to unhide these?

@shaahidh, The first thing you need to do is get rid of the virus, if you don't have an anti-virus program you can get a free virus scan online at http://www.eset.com/onlinescan/ or http://www.pcpitstop.com/antivirus/default.asp

@ Kevin, to make a crash without breaking the computer (works only in Windows Vista), do this:
1. Open Task Manager
2. Go to Processes
3. Click Show processes from all users
4. End "csrss.exe"
Done! Your computer will crash, but if you restart, it will work again.

hackyourlife | September 7th

This is not ENABLING hibernation, this is enabling windows to show the hibernate button at shutdown proces! For this registry key to work, hibernation should be on... Often doesn't work with SP2. You will need show hibernate hotfix - WindowsXP_KB893056_x86_ENU.exe . There are (illegal) sites where you can download this free of charge.
But again, SP3 fixes this program. Reg hack should be enough ; )

Peace!

I find it ridiculous that many PC owners prefer installing all kinds of trials and demos and “free scan” of programs, and what’s worse - they’re advised to install as many security programs as possible. In my experience, a web scanner sometimes if a better choice. It’s easy to try a dozen of virus scanners, and in many cases they really help to remove malware.
But of course none of these services provide real-time protection. They’re mostly for additional testing and energency cases.

>Go to Control Panel.
>Click Power Options
>Hibernate tab an check the box
>click OK.
So when you want to Hibernate
>click start button
> select 'Turn off computer'
>press 'shift' button and your stanby button will change into hibernate button
there you go

I am using at home the AVG Free Edition - last time I checked it was among the few antiviruses which were both free and officialy compatible with Vista..
About “tweaking” it’s nothing special: I think most if not all antiviruses have some option to disable the file scanning engine and to leave only other components enabled (email scanner, etc.)
