iTalk’s twin built-in mics record directly to your iPod, and adjustable gain settings give you control over the volume. You can even use external microphones with iTalk Pro. Just plug your mic into the 3.5mm jack on the bottom of iTalk Pro.

You can pick it up at Amazon for about $18.00

Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered what the heck am I looking at. Wonder no more with this weeks Gadget. The Meade mySky. Just point it to what your looking at and shoot.

Meade introduces a revolutionary way to explore out universe. The new Meade mysky is an easy to use, multi-media device that will guide you through the night sky, and if you have a Meade computerized telescope it will interface nicely. Check it out Here. and Gearlog has a nice review Here.

So how does this device know what you’re pointing at? Built in are a GPS unit, accelerometers, and magnetic north sensors, so it knows where you are and can calculate the mySKY’s aim and positioning. It works out of the box, and pretty instantaneously. There are over 30,000 objects in its database, so most of what’s visible to the naked eye can be identified. And the mySKY’s updateable: It comes with an SD card, so you can pull new info off the Web and add it.

Here’s a cool gift for the little scientist in your family.

Say goodbye to normal magnifiers! With the Jakks EyeClops Bionic Eye hand-held device, kids can view everyday objects at 200 times their regular size. Recommended for kids ages six and up, the EyeClops creates hours of endless play and exploration that’s fun for the entire family. Available at Amazon for $50.00

Much more fun than a microscope, the EyeClops transforms any television into an interactive TV toy. With the EyeClops, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. Magnified to 200 times the normal size and viewed on any TV screen, minuscule salt crystals morph into blocks of ice; hair and carpet turn into giant noodles; and small insects become fearsome creatures. The Bionic Eye has three built-in LED lights so kids can illuminate any object, including their own skin.

Kids love using the TV along with this educational device to share a new activity with their friends. Parents too can join in the fun and will love how their children learn and play. So you don’t have to touch everything you look at, the toy comes with an observation dish and tube, perfect for viewing liquids, salt, and bugs. The battery-powered device is simple to use, plugging directly into the A/V jacks found on any current TV model. The brightly colored, hard plastic device is child-safe and stands up to hours of scientific exploration. The EyeClops requires five AA

Here’s a neat little gadget for hurricane season, a flashlight that doesn’t need battery’s just pull the cord a few times and you get light, it will also charge your cell phone. Check it out Here $30.00

(From their site)You will never need to purchase another flashlight or batteries again. This amazingly brilliant and powerful LED flashlight provides you with enough light for just about any emergency situation when fully charged. Two quick pulls on the line at the bottom of the unit, and you have light for minutes on end. This isn’t like the clumsy shake lights or others where you have to sit there and wind the unit again and again. Pull twice and you have a powerful flashlight for minutes and minutes. Unlike the crank lights, the zipping action of the Ultra Power Zipping LED Forever Flashlight causes the coils to continue to rotate and generate power after you are finished doing the work. This system generates more power faster than the cranking system. Give yourself peace of mind in emergency situations with the Ultra Power Zipping LED Forever Flashlight.

Check out the video.

A couple of friends have asked about UPS’s so here’s some info about them, I highly recommend you get one for your computer.

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS), also known as an uninterruptible power source or a battery backup is a device which maintains a continuous supply of electric power to connected equipment by supplying power from a separate source when utility power is not available. There are three distinct types of UPS: off-line, line-interactive and on-line.

When a power failure occurs, the off-line type of UPS effectively switches from utility power to its own power source, almost instantaneously. The on-line type of UPS, which is continuously connected to the protected load, draws energy from its reserves, usually stored in lead-acid batteries, converting it to AC power.

The on-line type of UPS, in addition to providing protection against complete failure of the utility supply, provides protection against all common power problems, and for this reason it is also known as a power conditioner and a line conditioner.

While not limited to safeguarding any particular type of equipment, a UPS is typically used to protect computers, telecommunication equipment or other electrical equipment where an unexpected power disruption could cause injuries, fatalities, serious business disruption or data loss. UPS units come in sizes ranging from units which will back up a single computer without monitor (around 200 VA) to units which will power entire data centers or buildings (several megawatts). Larger UPS units typically work in conjunction with generators.

Historically, UPSs were very expensive and were most likely to be used on expensive computer systems and in areas where the power supply is interrupted frequently. However, as prices have fallen, UPS units have become an essential piece of equipment for data centers and business computers, but are also used for personal computers, entertainment systems and more.

In certain countries, where the electrical grid is under strain, providers struggle to ensure supply during times of peak demand (such as summer, during which air-conditioning usage increases). In order to prevent unplanned blackouts, electrical utilities will sometimes use a process called rolling blackouts or load shedding, which involves cutting the power to large groups of customers for short periods of time. Several major blackouts occurred in 2003, most notably the 2003 North America blackout in the north-eastern US and eastern Canada and the 2003 Italy blackout, both of which affected over 50 million people, and brought attention to the need for UPS power backup units.

A UPS should not be confused with a standby generator, which does not provide protection from a momentary power interruption and may result in an interruption when it is switched into service, whether manually or automatically. However, such generators are typically placed before the UPS to provide cover for lengthy outages. Integrated systems that have UPS and standby-generator components are often referred to as emergency power systems. Source: wikpedia.

What is E Ink® Technology?
The Sony Reader’s display uses E Ink – a significant improvement over CRT and LCD technology. Instead of rows of glowing cells, E Ink® microcapsules actually appear as either black or white depending on a positive or negative charge determined by the content. The result is a reading experience that’s similar to paper – high contrast, high resolution, viewable in direct sunlight and at a nearly 180-degree angle, and requiring no power to maintain the image. In other words, it’s a screen that, like you, is well read.

Too many HDMI devices and not enough ports on your HDTV to connect them? We feel your pain. Most displays only offer one or two HDMI ports, which isn’t enough to support all of your devices. Our 4-port HDMI switcher is a simple solution that lets you connect up to four devices to a single HDMI port on your TV.

Simply connect your devices— cable/satellite box, Apple TV, DVD player, gaming console, etc.—to the input ports on the switcher. Then, connect the

What it Does:

The apple TV is not a TV, it is a set top box that hooks to your widescreen TV only, (regular TVs need not apply) to display media content stored on your computer and purchased through iTunes. It requires iTunes be installed on your computer. It’s priced at $300.

It is a bit larger than a Mac mini. Just over an inch tall. And 7.7 inches on each side. On the back are the Power, HDMI, USB, Ethernet, Analog Audio, Component Video, and Optical Digital Audio ports. It doesn’t come with any cables except the power one.

When you plug in your Ethernet cable into the device’s Ethernet port, it will check this connection first for a viable network connection. If it finds one, it will connect to your network using DHCP. If no Ethernet port is present, it will then search for wireless networks using its built-in 802.11b/g/n capabilities.

It has a 40 Gig hard drive 33 Gigs of usable storage space. That’s 50 hrs of video or 9000 songs. That’s not a lot of space if you have a lot of TV shows, movies, photos and music. (Photo playback requires iPhoto on the Mac, or Photoshop Album or Photoshop Elements on Windows.) The Apple TV gives priority to your media, first syncing movies, then TV shows, music, podcasts, and, finally photos. When a computer is synced with an Apple TV, you see a tabbed interface where you determine how movies, TV shows, music, podcasts, and photos are synced to the Apple TV.

It will sync to 1 computer using iTunes ver 7.1.1or higher, Windows or Mac. You then tell it what content to move to the Apple TV. When the hard drive fills up, that’s it, it’s full. Content will disappear from the device as you sync it. Example, if you’ve configured Apple TV to grab the three most recent unwatched movies and you watch one of the movies, iTunes will tell the Apple TV to delete the watched movie from its hard drive and sync up the next unwatched movie. iTunes and the Apple TV constantly talk to one another. As long as iTunes is running on the synced computer and your network is up and running, the two will update content as necessary; there’s no need for you to initiate syncing. You can manage which media winds up on the Apple TV simply by telling it which content (and how much of it) is synced to the device. For example, you can tell iTunes to sync only the three most recent unwatched movies. Or disable movie syncing altogether so you can sync the five most recent episodes of a TV series.

The Apple TV can also stream content from up to five additional computers. To do so, navigate to the Sources menu on the Apple TV, select Connect to New iTunes, and a new PIN number will appear. Enter this PIN number into the Apple TV preferences on the new computer’s copy of iTunes, and iTunes will tell you you’re in sync. You can now stream content from that computer’s library to the Apple TV. How quickly it streams depends on the speed of your network and the kind of content you’re streaming. If you have an 802.11g or n network, video will stream fairly quickly. Although you can use an 802.11b networks, I wouldn’t recommend it, it will take a while for that content to be buffered by the Apple TV. A wired network should stream just about anything you want to the Apple TV.
