This is not ENABLING hibernation, this is enabling windows to show the hibernate button at shutdown proces! For this registry key to work, hibernation should be on... Often doesn&#039;t work with SP2. You will need show hibernate hotfix - WindowsXP_KB893056_x86_ENU.exe . There are (illegal) sites where you can download this free of charge. 
But again, SP3 fixes this program. Reg hack should be enough ; )

&gt;Go to Control Panel. 
&gt;Click Power Options
&gt;Hibernate tab an check the box
&gt;click OK.
So when you want to Hibernate
&gt;click start button
&gt; select &#039;Turn off computer&#039;
&gt;press &#039;shift&#039; button and your stanby button will change into hibernate button
