keys When you leave your computer to do something else but don’t want others to see or have access to your desktop you can create a shortcut icon to quickly lock the keyboard and display without using CTRL+ALT+DEL or a screensaver. Here’s how.

  1. Right-click the desktop.
  2. Click New, and then click Shortcut.
  3. The Create Shortcut Wizard opens. In the text box, type the following:
    rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation
  4. Click Next.
  5. Enter a name for the shortcut. You can call it “Lock Computer” or choose any name you like.
  6. Click Finish.

Now we need to change that plain icon to something snazzier.

  1. Right click the Lock Computer Icon and choose Properties. Then click Change Icon.
  2. In the browse box type in %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
  3. Select the icon you want from the selection and click Ok twice.
