Turn Off Auto Reboot In XP

warning When Windows XP crashes with the Blue Screen, notice I said when it crashes. It will automatically reboot, sometimes too fast to read any error message it displays. So if you want to turn it off to see if you can figure out what happened, follow the directions below.

  1. Right click My Computer.
  2. Choose Properties.
  3. Click the Advanced tab from the systems properties page.
  4. In the Startup and Recovery portion choose Settings.
  5. Under system failure remove the checkmark next to Automatically restart.
  6. Click Ok twice.

    Hi Kevin

I hope your site is still active. Last year you wrote an article on how to turn of autoreboot in XP. My problem is that I can’t boot to windows and I am getting the BSOD about 8 milliseconds before MS reboots my system. So, it just stays in the loop rebooting and restarting. Anyway to turn this autoreboot off from the recovery console or something?

    Thanks,

    Shelford

@ Shelford, Have you tried to boot into safe mode yet, I don’t know of a way to turn off autoreboot from the recovery console, but let me ask a few friends in the morning and I’ll let you know.
    Kevin.

@ Shelford, When booting hit f8 to enter Windows advanced options, scroll down and choose Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure.
