The System tray is the area next to your clock where Windows displays icons of programs that startup when you boot into Windows.

Sometimes this area can stretch half way across your monitor and display every icon in it, or other times it only displays a few items. This tip will show you how to control what icons get displayed and for how long.

  1. Click Start and choose Properties.
  2. Select the Taskbar tab.
  3. Choose Customize in the Notification area.
  4. Select the Item you want to change and use the drop down box to change the way its displayed. ” Hide when inactive, always hide or Always show.
  5. After making your adjusting click Ok.

Now you’re System tray will behave the way you want.
