Well my Vista upgrade DVD finaly arrived so over the weekend I formatted my XP drive and reinstalled XP for that fresh feeling then installed Vista on another drive for that dual boot action. I’m going to have to slide into Vista slowly, can’t do that cold turkey thing.

So here are some of my observations of the 2 installs.

Fresh install of XP Media Center 1hr 10min to desktop. Registration validation and Genuine Advantage no problems.

Windows Update now at 120 High and low priorty updates and counting, they just keep coming. Total time for install 2 hr 15 min. now to reinstall all my apps. Will most likely take weeks.

Fresh install of Vista Home Premium (Dual Boot) 30 min to desktop. Registration validation and Genuine Advantage no problems.

Windows Update 14 High and low priorty updates. Total time for install 45 min. Much better than XP, now to install all my apps and see what works and won’t work. Will most likely take weeks. (Stay tuned) Now back to installing programs. My Performance rating is 3.5

I also found a good Vista site to help in the transition. Check them out.
