The story is all about an architect named Dan Merrick (Tom Berenger), who is so very successful in the business. One fine day, while driving in his car along with his wife, Judith Merrick (Greta Scacchi), unfortunately an accident comes their way. He comes out alive of the accident but loses his memory and starts to suffer from amnesia. Dan’s wife, his partner, Jeb Scott ( Corbin Bernsen)and his partner’s wife, Jenny Scott (Joanne Whalley), tell him about his past, which he finds isn't flawless. Now, left with no other choice, Dan decides to approach a detective called Gus Klein (Bob Hoskins), who is a pet shop owner and a part-time detective and who he had met before the accident to help him find his wife's affair with another man, to set things right. It’s the detective who then digs up all the mysteries hidden in Dan’s past.
