A very dedicated and controversy causing Los Angeles journalist named Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher (Chevy Chase) is about to go undercover again. Disguised as a bum, he is trying to get a story about drug dealing and related issues. While doing his research, “Fletch” is living at the beach, where one day he is being approached by Alan Stanwyk (Tim Matheson) regarding a huge favor. For $ 50,000 Fletch is asked to kill Mr. Stanwyk by gunshot. Alan is said to suffer from cancer and would like his wife to get the insurance money. Fletch is now starting extensive research on Mr. Stanwyk, and comes across some “fishy” business, including the fact that Mr. Stanwyk is as healthy as can be.
